Legislation

Current legislation and policy of the ACT government provides for the teaching of religious education in government primary schools, when requested by parents for their children. The Christian Education In Schools (CEIS) project has developed in direct response to this legislation, endeavouring to professionally address the requests for Christian Education (CE) and coordinate its provision, by liaising between the Education and Training Directorate (ETD), schools, parents and Christian religious bodies (churches).

The ACT Education Act 2004 – Section 29

The ACT Government Education Act 2004 of the ACT Government Education Act 2004 (the Act) provides for the teaching of religious education in government schools.

The Religious Education in Schools Policy of the ACT Education and Training Directorate states that the teaching of religious education in government schools will be coordinated in individual schools by the principal, in co-operation with specific religious bodies and parents.
